I hear this from my Portland-area clients all the time. In fact, some of my best clients started out by telling me that they really aren't litigious, that they would just as soon put the whole experience behind them. They just don't like suing people, they tell me.
The good personal injury lawyer and the good personal injury case are not about chasing a pay day. They are about recognizing a fundamental economic principle of our economy. There are many injury risks every day in our society, whether they are car wrecks, bike accidents, or even pedestrian crosswalk accidents.
Prudent people and families buy insurance to cover the risk that they accidentally hurt someone. A certain percentage of those premiums are set aside to pay claims by injured people. The injured people themselves typically pay premiums into the system for years before actually making a claim.
If you don't make a claim when you're hurt, do they send those premiums back, either to you or the person who accidentally hurt you? Of course not. The insurance companies keep the premiums. In fact, they have teams of adjustors and lawyers throughout the country fighting every day to convince injured victims that they don't need a lawyer, that they should take pennies on the dollar and not be like those other "litigious" people.
That's not fair. And, that is what I fight to balance out. You paid into the system for years, just in case, one day, you yourself got hurt and needed compensation. When that day comes, you have every right to seek the benefits you've paid for all these years. I can help.
